Tyler Animal Clinic is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our team in Madison, OH.
Job Summary
The Veterinary Assistant is responsible for assisting the Veterinarian and other staff with patient care, lab work, and patient duties. Cleaning and product inventory are major duties of this role as well. This position provides support to the Veterinarian, hospital staff, patients and clients of the hospital. The ideal candidate is a team player who can work well independently. Main responsibilities include proper restraint techniques, learn body language of dogs and cats and how to adapt, cleaning, and stocking.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assists with patient care, including but not limited to: restraining for examination, medication administration, wound care, and medication management including aggressive animals.
Assists with lab work including but not limited to: prepare fecal samples for analysis, process limited patient testing (snap tests).
Assist with administering medications as prescribed by the Veterinarian (assisting Technicians with patient treatments - restraining patients).
Maintains cleanliness of exam rooms, equipment, and general areas in the hospital.
Restocking products.
Cleaning and sanitizing after each patient.
Must be able to carry 50 pounds by yourself and up to 90 pounds with assistance (with another team member).
Main job duties such as restraining and cleaning are physical in nature. You must be able to react quickly including but not limited to reading body language of cats and dogs, improve from constructive criticism as you are required to protect yourself and staff members from getting bit.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Veterinarian or Manager.
Ensures patient safety at all times.
Client education regarding procedures, services, medication, etc.
General knowledge of vaccine protocols, on-site preventatives, and general policies.
Experience:
Experience working in a veterinary hospital preferred but not required.
Experience with medical terminology preferred but not required.
Experience with digital radiographs preferred but not required.
Experience with electronic medical records preferred but not required.
Knowledge of veterinary surgical procedures preferred but not required .
