This is a non-peace officer classification. Under the direct supervision of the Staff Service Manager I, the Special Investigator Assistant conducts routine investigative tasks that include providing support to journey level investigators and supervising investigators during investigations involving community care facilities. Duties include assisting with arrest investigations and ensuring registered sex offenders are not present in community care facilities as a non-dependent adult; assisting in obtaining medical, police, and court records; assisting in copying evidence; controlling evidence; typing and photocopying investigation reports; data entry; serving subpoenas and exclusions; preparing statistical reports; and assisting the supervisor with intake and referral processes.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
Knowledge of using Excel, California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS), DMV, Cal-Photo, CSAR and Automated Archives with the ability to meet deadlines. The Special Investigator Assistant must perform a full range of support duties and responsibilities and have a valid driver’s license.
