ABOUT LITTLE SAINT

Located in the heart of historic downtown Healdsburg, Little Saint is a vibrant meeting place where guests are invited to connect over food, music, art and conversation. Inside our 10,000-square-foot space, Little Saint offers up a full-service farm-forward restaurant, cafe and wine shop with a focus on plant-based cuisine. The building is home to exciting live music and thought-provoking conversations, as well as a series of film screenings and performances to benefit local artists and our farming community.

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Reporting to the Head Sommelier, the Sommelier works with the broader Little Saint team to offer wine and beverage expertise, recommendations, management and leadership to guests and within the team. The Sommelier will assist in overseeing our wine menu and offer drinking and pairing recommendations to guests. Under the general direction of the Head Sommelier, the responsibilities of the Sommelier includes supervising wine serving, collaborating with winemakers to upgrade selections, and providing wine recommendations. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a professional and friendly personality, strong knowledge of food and wine pairings, and excellent interpersonal skills. 

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Thorough knowledge of the menu, wine and beverage list, and food served
  • Make wine recommendations for guests based on their meal, preferences, budget and knowledge 
  • Communicate knowledge clearly and enthusiastically with guests and teammates
  • Ensure inventory levels are maintained and correct ordering procedures are carried out.
  • Ensure the wine cellar is clean, organized and well stocked at all times
  • Offer training and mentorship to new hires to help them gain a sense of belonging into the company’s culture and understand expectations of them in their role.


IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ideally 2 years of experience in wine or beverage service within fine dining culinary setting but we are willing to train the right canidate!
  • Relevant experience in hospitality/restaurant operations
  • Extensive knowledge pertaining to all aspects of winegrowing, wine production, wine styles, and regional wine laws pertaining to classic regions from around the world
  • Wine certifications a bonus
  • Excellent computer competency, well-versed in booking and inventory systems
  • Commitment to service quality, excellence, and sincere hospitality
  • Self-motivated and highly organized, with the ability to self-manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a timely manner
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time, and frequently lift up to 50 pounds
  • The ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, reach with hands and arms
  • Flexibility with a schedule that includes evenings, holidays and extended hours
  • Solid math skills, and computer proficiency
