The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine seeks medical physicists for a faculty position with open rank and tenure status. Rank, salary, and tenure status commensurate with experience and qualifications. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in all facets of radiation oncology physics clinical support and quality assurance at the primary center and satellite sites as needed. Furthermore, the candidate will team with faculty within the department and work collaboratively with investigators across the Heersink School of Medicine, UAB, and peer academic departments to develop a clinically meaningful and scholarly-rich research program for radiation oncology.

To be considered, applicants must hold a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field, be certified by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Medical Physics, or have completed an accredited residency and be ABR board eligible and able to demonstrate a record of scholarly achievement.

Our team consists of 15 Ph.D. physicists and 22 radiation oncologists, assisted by a team of dosimetrists and therapists. We train ten radiation oncology and two medical physics residents in our CAMPEP-accredited program. We routinely provide physics services for 90+ patients per day at our main campus and 80+ patients per day across our extension clinics. Procedures include IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, respiratory gating, stereotactic radiosurgery, SRS, SBRT, interstitial and intracavitary HDR, 125-I eye plaques, and TBI with photons and electrons.

We utilize Varian accelerators (two TrueBeam, one Edge, two iX with RapidArc and cone beam CT, an Ethos, two Phillips Brilliance Big Bore CT simulators, and a Varian Bravos HDR unit. Our external beam and brachytherapy treatment planning systems and record and verify system are Varian Aria/Eclipse.
