POSITION: ROAD MAINTENANCE WORKER STARTING PAY: $20.93 hour (Minimum Starting Wage) CLOSING DATE: October 21, 2024 JOB SUMMARY Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties to build, repair, clear and maintain Iron County Roadways and other related duties. Operate heavy equipment to include backhoe, dump truck, front end loader, rollers, lowboy, trucks, grader, distributer, dozer, snowplow, mower, sprayer and other equipment used in transporting vehicles and equipment to job sites. Build and maintain county roadways. Remove snow in mountain and valley areas and prepare for emergency flood control, 24 hours per day. Assist in road repair by chip sealing, crack sealing and seal coating. Install, repair and maintain road signage. Maintain equipment by performing preventive maintenance on equipment, changing all oil and filters on a regular basis, repair truck tires and grease required areas on a regular basis and other mechanical duties as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or equivalent AND One (1) year experience with the operation and maintenance of various types of heavy equipment.
Preference will be given to those applicants with
heavy equipment experience .
Valid UTAH CDL - You must have this to be eligible for hire
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS Must have and maintain a valid Utah CDL License (Class A).
Complete physical as required to maintain UDOT certification.
Attend any required training seminars when scheduled.
Attend scheduled defensive driving courses, and UDOT Flagging school as required to obtain and maintain certification.
Random drug testing according to UDOT guidelines.
Knowledge of mechanical applications; road construction methods and techniques; work zone regulations.
Skill in operating hand tools; operating heavy equipment; operating road construction machinery; basic mathematics.
Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work activities; work unsupervised and accept responsibility for actions; communicate effectively with staff and public; use independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations; plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments and work activities; communicate via radio; read blueprints, plans and specifications.
