Recreation Leaders actively supervise and engage in activities with youth enrolled in UGPRD Summer Camp sessions. They are responsible for leading various activities throughout the day under the guidance of the Recreation Instructor. They ensure that the right equipment is on hand for all activities, meet and greet participants, and answer any questions their parents may have about the activities for the day. Applicants should have knowledge of a variety of different sports, crafts, and activities, and enjoy helping the youth develop physically, mentally, and socially. Work environment may be indoors in gymnasiums or outdoors on sporting fields. The workload can be physically demanding whenever they are involved with leading athletic activities. Must be punctual and timely in all requirements of performance. Qualifications include being a minimum of 16 years old and available to work an 8-hour shift between Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Desired applicants have the ability to lead a group in activity, good character, adaptability, enthusiasm, patience, and self-control. All positions require that the applicant be a resident of Wyandotte county or willing to relocate within 12 months from the date of hire. As a condition of employment, all employees must pass a post-offer physical examination and drug screen and submit proof of identity and employment eligibility. The Summer Employment Program begins approximately May 1, 2024, and lasts approximately 7 to 12 weeks.
