Job Summary

The Product Designer develops the concepts for new manufactured products and the modification of existing manufactured products according to customer specifications. The Product Designer works closely with the Sales Department and will collaborate with other designers and engineers to develop holistic wire & cable design solutions. The Product Designer will take work from initial concept through final development with intense emphasis on customer satisfaction.

Essential Functions:

  • Based on customer specification sheets generate quote parts into a clear and concise production router
  • Create Lake Cable specification sheets based on quote parts or order parts
  • Read and interpret industry standards such as UL and CSA
  • Create drawings for special OEM designs using Turbo-Cad software
  • Keep current regarding the newest technologies, standards and industry trends
  • Create new procedures for later use

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must understand wire and cable manufacturing and design processes
  • Must have a clear understanding of agency approvals including, but not limited to UL and CSA
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, multi-task and resolve problems
  • Problem-solving skills to determine the need, size, and cost of a product; anticipate production issues; develop alternatives; evaluate options; and implement solutions.
  • Ability to think analytically using logic and reasoning skills
  • Efficient time management, organizational skills and attention to detail with consistent accuracy
  • Proficient with computer software: Microsoft Office; Wire Pac system; Turbo-Cad; and the Internet
  • Mechanical skills - must understand how products are engineered and function
  • Independent thinker and worker who can easily adapt to a team approach

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in industrial design, engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience
  • Three to five years of experience working in a manufacturing environment; wire and cable manufacturing, preferred
