Job Description

Job Summary:

The Trainer will apply an understanding of adult learning techniques to conduct training needs assessments based on clinical workflow and then to implement training programs. She/he will develop or adapt learning materials and courses to meet system user needs and will teach courses to physicians and to all levels of employees who use the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and other Health IT clinical applications. This position trains professional staff (physicians, nurses), clerical support staff, and other users in an ambulatory healthcare environment.

Job Duties:

The trainer will assist with the development, maintenance, and delivery of Cerner EHR instructional materials to the clinical environment using computerized media, at the elbow support, and instructor-led training classes. The trainer will also take part in building, implementing, and supporting various aspects of Cerner applications within the clinical environment. Prepare necessary documentation, training materials, and training in a variety of formats for end users. Support new Cerner Clinical applications by ensuring the successful operation and use of existing Cerner applications through accurate and timely instructional materials. Determine best delivery practices; identify Super Users to assist with meeting designated goals and objectives. Serve as a vital interface between the Systems Analyst developers and front-end users, communicate effectively any pertinent workflow or systems issues and assist with resolutions that support both the technical team and the front-end users/stakeholders. Lead one-on-one and group training sessions for clinic staff, provide system support in clinic and office settings, as well as serve as an onsite resource for staff members during Cerner implementations, upgrades, and other hospital-wide clinical rollouts. Communicate and educate a wide variety of medical center hospital staff. Monitor systems performance, document problems, perform troubleshooting, and assist with the development of work aids that result in the identification and correction of error conditions. Provide go-live and pre/post-implementation support for new modules and system solutions to assist users in the monitoring of documentation completeness, accuracy, and compliance with hospital, State, and Federal standards. Perform quality assurance testing, troubleshooting, and problem-solving. Log service requests serve as a liaison with vendor support resources. Seek ways to improve the quality and effectiveness of various clinical processes. EHR Trainer conducts technical training programs for end-users of EHR software applications. Determines training objectives and creates lesson plans and other materials needed for training. An EHR Trainer configures the training environment to ensure end-users can practice using EHR software both inside and outside of the classroom. Designs and delivers new hire training and ongoing user training during system changes and upgrades. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of EHR applications (Cerner Powerchart, Dynamic Documentation, MPages, PowerForms, Prescription Writer (eRx and EPCS), Message Center, scheduling, registration). Well-versed in EHR workflow. Strong communication and presentation skills. Technical writing and training program design skills. Ability to work with individuals at all levels and serve as a subject matter expert on the EHR system. Acquire an understanding of health center workflows and make recommendations of how to best utilize EHR to meet the users needs. Flexible with work hours. Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Train both new and existing staff in either a classroom or one-on-one setting. Conduct follow-up/reinforcement training as needed. Adjust training style to meet the needs of individuals requiring additional assistance. Develop training documentation, tools/materials. Remain current with knowledge of Cerner. Participate in cross-function work teams. Educate staff on additional clinical and administrative applications. Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

Health Information Technology Training Analyst I

Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university; or six (6) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An additional one (1) year of experience in a related field.

Health Information Technology Training Analyst II

Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university in educational, health science, computer science, or other applicable field required.; or six (6) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An additional three (3) years of experience in a related field.

Health Information Technology Training Analyst III

Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university in educational, health science, computer science, or other applicable field required.; or six (6) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An additional five (5) years of experience in a related field.

COMPUTER SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual should know Database software, Design software, Development software, Project Management software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid drivers license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.

Have or obtain Cerner Trainer certification within the first year of employment.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Prior experience in the healthcare informatics setting is required. Experience developing Cerner functionality curriculums, job aids, quick tips, and newsletters. Classroom training and one-on-one training experience required. Basic front in the knowledge of PowerChart, PowerChart Ambulatory, FirstNet, PathNet, and PowerChart Maternity required. Great customer service. Three (3) years of major information system (e.g. Cerner, EPIC, Centricity, Meditech, etc.) user or curriculum development experience and a total of five (5) years current relevant healthcare experience preferred. Cerner experience is preferred. Experience in Learning Management System (LMS) technology is beneficial. Proficiency in software that may include Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Captivate, Photoshop, Snagit, WebEx, or other training applications. Must possess a basic knowledge of integrated clinical systems. One (1) or more years of clinical experience in the healthcare industry is preferred. Prior experience in the health care setting is preferred. Certified Training and Development Professional Certification beneficial. Must have highly developed interpersonal skills. Must have highly developed presentation skills for a variety of audiences. Ability to work efficiently in both independent and collaborative environments. College degree in educational, health science, computer science, or other applicable field required. Travel to off-site locations is required. Experience in the development of web-based training modules is a plus. Knowledge and/or experience using a Learning Management Program. Knowledge of clinical workflows. Front-end knowledge of PowerChart, PowerChart Ambulatory, FirstNet, Registration, and PowerChart Maternity. Microsoft Office Suite proficient.
