Kimmel Studio is a multidisciplinary design studio located in Annapolis, Maryland. We focus on high design including architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture.

This position will be full-time in the Annapolis office.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a spirited, curious, and driven designer with experience in furniture design and interior design. As our Furniture Designer, you will work directly with the managing principal to conceptualize, design, and create unique and functional furniture. This role requires a blend of artistic vision, technical expertise, and an understanding of market trends and consumer needs. This position will require 2D and 3D computer drawing. The furniture designer will help with the creation of a new furniture line from the ground up!

Essential Skills

Develop innovative and creative furniture designs that meet market demands, our strategic needs and excel in both form and function.

Work closely with the managing principal and marketing teams to understand market/consumer needs and to deliver compelling designs.

Work with engineering and operations teams to understand the unique cost drivers and limitations of the manufacturing process as it pertains to the design process.

Balance the tradeoffs between cost and design to help make prudent decisions and deliver the best result for the organization.

Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, while maintaining attention to detail, project quality and adherence to timelines.

Be knowledgeable of furniture industry trends in design and color, consumer preferences, pain points, and emerging technologies.

Be able to create 3D drawings or work with a 3D renderer to be able to market the furniture pieces.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Industrial Design, Business Administration or a related field

4-10 years experience in furniture or home furnishings.

Strong artistic and creative abilities.

Proficiency in the appropriate design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Sketchup, 5D Render, or similar tools.

Excellent 2D and 3D sketching skills to rapidly communicate ideas

Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and industry trends.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Attention to detail and the ability to work within cost/budgetary constraints.

Work Environment

All work will be performed in an office setting/design studio unless on an occasional site visit or factory visit. We do not have a manufacturing plant.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Physical Requirements: The position requires the ability to drive a car, operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, scanner, and printer. The position also requires the ability to travel to and from the office, as well as to meet with clients and colleagues outside of the office.

• Work Environment: The position is located in our Annapolis office and requires the employee to be physically present at the office to perform the essential functions of the job. These functions include face-to-face interaction and coordination of work with other employees, in-person interaction with outside colleagues, clients, or customers, and immediate access to software and documents or other information located only in the office.

This allows us to collaborate more effectively, share ideas more easily, and build stronger relationships.
