Description Position Summary : The Grocery Category Manager creates comprehensive category strategies to meet customer needs and organizational goals for both the Pantry and Snacks categories. Responsibilities include developing the innovation pipeline and assortment strategy, determining pricing strategy, leading vendor negotiations, and providing thought leadership on trends and innovation. The position also focuses on driving a consumer-centric selling culture through Assortment, Site Planning, and Pricing activities.The ideal candidate has demonstrated success within a merchandising function, including product sourcing and selection, eCommerce site selling strategies, and the grocery supply chain, and is interested in joining a team of passionate food experts at FreshDirect.
Essential Functions : - Responsible for producing a comprehensive and cohesive category strategy which successfully meets the needs of our customers and achieves category goals while supporting organizational business plans
- Leads innovation pipeline for manufactured SKUs, in partnership with R&D team and operations.
- Manages assortment and selection for assigned categories(i.e. final approval for all assortment decisions)
- Responsible for thought leadership and category expertise around trends and category innovation
- Leads vendor negotiation and develops effective, collaborative relationships
- Drive the day to day activities of a selling organization culture with a consumer-centric focus through Assortment, Site Planning, and Pricing responsibilities.
- Establish base and promotional pricing for assigned categories that deliver on the FreshDirect strategy on-site and achieve targets for sales, gross margin and units
- Manages performance for assigned category including Units per Order, Sales, Gross Margin and Scrap and customer metrics.
Minimum Qualifications : - Excellent oral and written communication skills including presentation skills
- Analytically-minded with strong organizational skills
- Excellent attention to detail and exceptional follow-through
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly in Excel
- Some project management experience, and an ability to manage mid-sized projects
- 4-8 years' experience in Food, Grocery Retail, eCommerce, or related industry
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : - A true passion for food is a must!
- Scope: Partners with peers (i.e. similar level) in different functions within the Org.Contributes to cross-functional projects.
- Some Project Management experience.Ability to lead mid- to large-sized projects
- Excellent oral and written communication skills including presentation skills
- Analytically minded with strong organizational skills
- Problem solver with excellent communication and organizational skills
- Adept at working in a fast-paced and ever-changing work environment, with an appetite for continuous learning
- Strong follow-up skills in managing requests and projects that span several weeks
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively
- A proven track record for process improvement
