Education & Certification
•Bachelor's Degree required.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE:
•Experience directing a high school athletic program or three years experience as a head coach at the varsity level.
•The ability to articulate the relationship between interscholastic athletics and academic achievement. Coursework or training in the organization and administration of athletic programs.
•Demonstrated knowledge and experience with MHSAA policies and guidelines. Successful experience supervising and organizing multiple athletic programs.
•Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings. Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms. Effectively speak to various groups with poise, preparation, accuracy and confidence.
•Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with students, staff and parent groups.
•Ability to effectively manage and resolve conflict. Must possess personal maturity, patience, and dependability.
•Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently without direct supervision.
•Ability to manage and coordinate multiple priorities while meeting deadlines. Proven record of putting the interests of students first.
•Experience administering an athletic program budget in accordance with appropriate protocols and procedures.
•Demonstrated understanding of Title IX and the implications for school athletic program decisions. Demonstrated ability to screen, hire and evaluate program staff in coordination with the Office of Human Resources Department.
•Ability to operate a motor vehicle and possess a valid Michigan driver license. Proven ability to plan and facilitate professional development for coaches.
•Demonstrated understanding of COVID workplace rules and compliance measures for athletic programs.



POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Director of Athletics position is an administrative position directly responsible for the day to day and overall leadership development of the athletic program for grades K-12. The Assistant Athletic Director will provide guidance and direction for the district athletic programs including but not limited to budgets, coaching staff, event scheduling and supervision. The Assistant Director of Athletics will also serve as the primary representative to the Oakland Activities Association (OAA) and the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) and become a member of the Oakland County Athletic Director Association while assuring compliance with all policies and guidelines established by the district.



POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Coordinate and schedule events related to the middle and high school athletic program.
•Coordinate K-12 clubs and activities.
•Manage and direct the day-to-day operation of the school district's athletic program.
•Establish and lead an athletic program that prioritizes the well-being of the whole student.
•Establish and enforce the physical, academic and training requirements of eligibility for participation.
•Support and assist with developing district policies as they pertain to the athletic program. Recruit, select, mentor, supervise and evaluate athletic personnel.
•Responsible for budget and payroll for athletic department.
•Maintain active relationship with the MHSAA. Research, recommend and purchase athletic equipment for the K-12 athletic program.
•Represent the district in matters of interscholastic athletics at the conference, county, and state levels.
•Continuously evaluate effectiveness of athletic programs, support staff and coaches, appropriate rules, regulations and safety procedures and protocols governing the conduct of athletic activities.
•Work cooperatively with the Public Relations and Communications Specialist to promote the athletic program through the effective and appropriate use of social and other media sources.
•Foster and promote communication and mutual understanding between staff, parents and students.
•Execute district policies and administrative procedures.
•Maintaining the district hiring practices with Human Resources.
•Schedule transportation for away competitions.
•Work with the operations department to develop and maintain outstanding indoor and outdoor facilities. Serve as an active member of the district's capital improvement committee to plan and implement a vision for future athletic facility development. Be present for all athletic events, as needed.


•Other Duties - Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Director or other appropriate personnel.
