Job description:
This position has the responsibility and authority to develop and maintain a variety of
Instructions For Use (IFU) documents for our Robotics organization, such as User’s Guides,
IFUs, Technical Bulletins, Service Manuals, Knowledge Content, Online help guides and other
technical content for our line of advanced robotic products. You will take the initiative to identify
document requirements, interview appropriate product experts to obtain the necessary
information, and distill this information into detailed, accurate, professional documentation. You
will complete, route, and follow through with electronic forms required to release an IFU. You
will be asked to present complex concepts clearly and concisely, manage multiple projects
concurrently, adjust priorities as needed and overcome obstacles to meet deadlines. In addition,
you will be responsible for preparing, coordinating, tracking, and finalizing document translation
projects as required.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia, web-based publications and user sites
•Conducts interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation
•Researches and translates technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for technical users.
•Design, develop, and maintain service manual using MadCap Flare and Adobe FrameMaker® software applications.
•Control service manual versioning and maintain the service manual archives.
•Create easy-to-understand online user interface text, help, and training guides.
•Perform the administrative documentation tasks required to establish and track the service manual in a Product Lifecycle Management system.
•Continuously evaluate business processes, identify improvement opportunities, and implement improvements.
•Standardize content across platforms and media. All activities must be performed incompliance with the Quality System.
•Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies or governmental regulations.
•Works independently with general supervision on larger, moderately complex projects/assignments.
•All other duties as assigned.
•Occasional domestic and international travel may be required. Travel requirement: Less than 10%
Requirements:
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
•BS / BA in a technical science, English, or Journalism.
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
•2+ years of technical writing or technical editing experience in a technical publications group.
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
•Advanced experience with MadCap Flare software or Adobe FrameMaker®, and has experience with Structured Authoring using XML and content management solutions.
•Advanced Experience with Adobe Acrobat® and PhotoShop® software, vector graphics software (e.g. Adobe Illustrator® or CoreDraw) and HTML.
•Strong organizational skills.
