Teacher - Social Studies (Long Term Sub) Malden Public Schools This long term substitute position is for January 2026 through the end of the 25-26 school year and will be posted for a permanent position in the 2026-27 school year. Malden High School is committed to providing all students with a diverse, student-centered, and rigorous curriculum that is adaptable enough to reach all learning styles and needs. We do this through offering a wide variety of academic and enrichment opportunities. As an urban school, it is our great pride that we are among the leaders in Advanced Placement courses in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We have continued to work closely with the BARR Foundation to complete a comprehensive review of academic offerings, instruction, curriculum, student data, and school‑wide focus on areas of need. As a result of the data collected, we have focused on improving the transition from middle school to high school, as well as establishing a vision for MHS and its students as they move through high school and prepare for college and career. We have also continued our work to help us move toward increasing our Student Growth Percentile (SGP) in ELA and Math MCAS. Malden High School offers a wide variety of enrichment opportunities for students, including division 1 varsity, junior varsity, and freshman level athletics, robust theater, choral, and band programs, and over 70 clubs and organizations. We recognize a need to serve the many new English Language Learners in our population and are regularly examining a variety of programs and methods to better serve them to ensure academic success. • 135 per day – Retired Teacher with DESE Certification
• 125 per day – DESE Teaching Certification
• 100 per day – No Certification

If a substitute holds a Bachelor’s degree or a Teaching License, and they serve in the same assignment for a 30 consecutive work‑day probationary period, they are eligible to have their pay rate increased to a per diem rate of $210 per day for the remainder of their current assignment; pay returns to the daily rate at the conclusion of the assignment. However, if they move to another long‑term assignment within a month, they do not have to restart the probationary period again and may continue receiving the per diem rate. Requests to move to the per diem rate at the end of the probationary period must be made to HR@maldenps.org, and confirmation will be submitted to payroll.
