Job Description

Are you a tax professional tired of busy season and billable hours?

Do you work with high-net-worth clients?

This is an opportunity to become an advisor who can grow in the near term to become a partner at our wealth management firm client.

Tax Wealth Strategist

Partner with financial advisers and their high-net-worth clients on complex federal and state tax planning and structuring matters, including family office and family limited partnership structuring, pre-liquidity planning and deal structuring, diversification and hedging strategies, and state tax residency planning for individuals and trusts. Your teamwork will be essential to efforts to retain client relationships and attract new ones. This is not a business development focused position, you will not be responsible for billable hours, and there will be little to no tax compliance.

Responsibilities

Partnering with financial advisors and their high net worth clients and prospects, provide explanations and solutions regarding various topics relating to the client's estate planning, trust planning, business succession, transaction advisory, and philanthropic planning services

  • Communicate with financial advisors and clients to gain an understanding of client’s needs, aid in documenting client goals, articulate investment and financial planning strategies and recommendations, identify expertise needed to help the client achieve their goals, and help build relationships with clients and financial advisors
  • Lead client and prospect meetings and provide comprehensive education, analysis, and advice regarding the client’s current estate plan or liquidity event planning
  • Serve as an educational and technical resource for advisors and clients on all aspects of the transmission of wealth, including tax-efficient estate planning structures, sophisticated lifetime gifting strategies, the transfer of closely held businesses, charitable giving, and the administration and restructuring of trusts
  • Prepare topical white papers and planning guides and maintain a comprehensive database of tax and estate planning materials for the benefit of financial advisers and their clients
  • Develop and present complex financial plans, including current and projected estate values and cash flow analysis, with integrated estate planning techniques and retirement planning
  • Serve as subject matter expert for complex issues requiring deep technical knowledge in tax planning and financial planning experience and have a strong understanding of upcoming rules/regulations and impacts on tax planning and financial planning concepts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and CPA certification
  • 5+ years of tax experience within a public accounting or wealth management firm working with high-net-worth clients
  • There will be little to no tax compliance and no billable hours requirement
  • Ability to review and understand both basic estate planning documents as well as documents implementing more complex estate planning strategies, such as irrevocable trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts (GRATs), qualified personal residence trusts (QPRTs), sales to intentionally defective grantor trusts and split-interest charitable trusts
  • Ability to understand and assimilate complex personal financial information (tax returns, investment statements, incentive benefits, employee benefits and compensation, life insurance policies, business interests, qualified and nonqualified retirement plan information, deferred compensation information, related retirement and benefits data, incentive and nonqualified stock option and restricted stock information)
  • The ideal candidate will have experience with the following areas, techniques, and strategies: estate; gift; GST and trust tax disciplines; advanced wealth transfer planning techniques such as Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts, Qualified Personal Residence Trusts, Family Limited Partnerships, Defective Grantor Trusts, Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts, Charitable Remainder Trusts, Charitable Lead Trusts, Private Foundations, Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax, planning with concentrated stock positions, incentive benefits, non-qualified stock options, incentive stock options, and restricted stock
