Summary

The Spanish Staff Interpreter is responsible for interpreting services for all court matters, assisting LEP individuals in person and on the phone and translating court forms.

Chester County Court Administration is seeking a Certified Court Interpreter with experience in the legal environment and technical competence in the court interpreting arena. The successful candidate must be a certified court interpreter according to the guidelines and requirements of the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts and be able to interpret in the three modes of interpretation (sight, consecutive and simultaneous) in court proceedings, quasi-judicial hearings and other court related events in person or via a telecommunication device. The qualified candidate will be able to produce translations of documents, such as official forms, public signs, notices, form letters and correspondence. Position includes other administrative duties as needed.

Essential Duties


  • Interpret in courtroom proceedings and trials at the Common Pleas and District Court levels.
  • Interpret in Family Court matters.
  • Interpret for and assist LEP individuals at the counter and on the phone.
  • Interpret in matters held over video calls.
  • Translate court forms into Spanish.
  • Translate public signs, notices, posters, form letters and correspondence.
  • Inventory and maintain translated forms.
  • Work with the law library assistant to update translated forms on the website.
  • Schedule and confirm outside interpreters.
  • Assist in updating the Language Access plan.
  • Assist in preparing the Language Access grant application.
  • Prepare reports and/or analysis on interpreter encounters/costs, etc.
  • Input LADC data
  • Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required.

Qualifications/Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience


  • Certified Court Interpreter with the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts.
  • Maintain certified court interpreter status and mandated continuing education.
  • Ability to travel to district courts for assignments.
  • At least one year of job-related experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of English and Spanish languages.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, and attention to detail.
  • Intermediate skill to use a personal computer and various software packages.
  • Knowledge and skill with modern office equipment (fax, copier, calculator, etc.).
  • Strong professional skills and appearance.
  • Treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Basic math and accounting knowledge.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and handle confidential matters.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, lift items, and talk or hear. Occasionally, the employee will need to walk; reach or work with arms above shoulder height; bend, twist or rotate at the waist; climb stairs; push or carry items; and work with an uncommon level of noise. On rare occasions, the employee will need to crawl; lift items; and kneel, stoop, crouch or squat.
