Job Description
Under direction, the purpose of the position is to maximize small gas- and diesel-powered equipment operation through efficient repair and maintenance practices. Work objective is to extend the service life of each item in a cost effective and time efficient manner. Employees in this classification service and repair small engine equipment including, but not necessarily limited to, lawn mowers, weed eaters, edgers, blowers, chainsaws, and rotor tillers. Performs related work as directed.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
Observes small engine equipment while in operation (when operable) to detect maintenance needs, operating weaknesses, or specific malfunctions.
Receives work orders and prioritizes service, maintenance or repair requirements; determines appropriate methods, tools, and parts required per work order.
Provides maintenance and repair to a wide variety of gas- and diesel-powered equipment engines, i.e., lawn mowers, weed eaters, edgers, blowers, chainsaws, rotor tillers, pressure washers, sod cutters.
Performs service and replacement of a variety and components, i.e., hoses, starters, points, plugs, fuel lines.
Completes documentation concerning materials, parts, supplies and labor per work order for district cost accounting purposes.
Performs preventive maintenance according to assigned schedules as needed, i.e., changing oil, tires, filters, tune ups.
Performs routine inspections of district small engine equipment for the purpose of ensuring safe operating conditions; inspects, adjusts and replaces valves, spark plugs, bearings, fuel, starting and ignition systems.
Ensures proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment, tools, and materials utilized per work order; ensures adherence to principles and practices of safe use and operation of equipment, tools, materials, and automotive equipment.
Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by five (5) years progressively skilled small engine repair experience, to include both gas- and diesel-powered engines; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Includes exercise of discretion in determining actual or probable consequences, and in referencing such evaluation to identify and select alternatives.
Human Interaction : Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others on how to apply procedures and standards to specific situations.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization : Requires the ability to overhaul, restore, renovate, construct, and/or rebuild equipment, machinery, or objects, requiring adherence to prescribed standards and specifications.
Verbal Aptitude : Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and advisory data and information.
Mathematical Aptitude : Requires the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide; calculate decimals and percentages.
Functional Reasoning : Requires ability to apply principles of rational systems. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form. Ability to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
Situational Reasoning : Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
ADA COMPLIANCE Physical Ability : Tasks involve the ability to exert very heavy physical effort in very heavy work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavy objects and materials (up to 100 pounds) and occasionally heavier items (100 pounds or over).
Sensory Requirements : Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate depths. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate textures. Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination.
