We are looking for a driven tax accounting and reporting professional with strong problem solving skills, a process automation mindset, and the ability to tell a story using facts and data to join our division. The position will be responsible for tax results throughout the income tax life cycle, including leading tax provisions and disclosures, maintaining the propriety of income taxes on regulatory financial statements, managing tax data and analytics, coordinating the impacts to taxes with stakeholders, and consulting on the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Accounting Standards Codification Topic 740: Income Taxes (ASC 740) and Statements of Statutory Accounting Principles No. 101 (SSAP 101). Responsibilities of this role also include assessing the current tax accounting and reporting data landscape and identification of opportunities using technology to drive process changes resulting in increased operational efficiencies. This is a vital role within the division and will have regular opportunities to present findings and insights to senior tax leaders. This hybrid in office position is located at our headquarters in downtown Chicago.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Prepare and review income tax provisions and analytics throughout the income tax life cycles. Manage key tax provision results with internal and external stakeholders. Identify and execute efficiency and automated technology improvements to enhance existing tax processes and manage tax data. Independently analyze and investigate tax implications of corporate transactions, making recommendations to management for informed decisions. Participate in the assessment of ASC 740 and SSAP 101 impacts on tax law and accounting standard changes. Consult and partner with other finance divisions and business peers to address tax issues and meet organizational objectives. Stay up-to-date with and educate others on trends and developments on income tax accounting and reporting guidance, as applicable to the insurance industry. Deliver professional and timely services to internal and external customers. Develop, coach, and mentor other tax professionals. Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Strong knowledge of ASC 740. Working knowledge of SSAP 101 is a plus. Strong knowledge of Subchapter C taxation in general. Working knowledge of insurance taxation is a plus. Ability to educate and influence operational business professionals on tax related issues. Results oriented with the ability to solve problems and work independently and/or in a team environment, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills. Strong storytelling and data visualization skills, with the ability to articulate complex tax issues in a simplified manner. Strong project management, organizational and planning skills. Exhibit leadership skills for other tax professionals to emulate. Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills, using data to inform decision making. Strong technology skills with a focus toward automated solutions and ownership of improved operational outcomes. Corptax experience is a plus, in addition to experience with Workday general ledger platform, Power BI, and other M365 applications. Strong tax reconciliation and analysis skills. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in accounting. Masters of Science in Taxation preferred. Certified Public Accountant designation preferred. Minimum of 5 to 7 years of public or corporate tax experience. Exposure to the Insurance Industry a plus. In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $72,000 to $141,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
