Description
At Liberty, you'll thrive in a hybrid setting that fosters in-person collaboration, innovation and growth. This approach optimizes both remote and in-person interactions, enabling you to connect and ideate with your team and deepen valuable relationships across the company, while still enjoying the flexibility of remote work for focused tasks and projects. This position follows a hybrid work model (2 days onsite) and is open to candidates located in Portsmouth, NH; Boston, MA; Plano, TX; Indianapolis, IN; and Columbus, OH.

We're building the next-generation personal lines quoting platform and are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help design solutions, build, and operate AWS-native services that power roughly 80% of all direct channel quoting volume. You'll work across TypeScript/Node.js and Java services running on AWS Fargate and AWS Lambda, with DynamoDB and DocumentDB as primary data stores. The ideal candidate is both technically strong and deeply collaborative, and has working knowledge of the insurance quoting lifecycle.

What you'll do:

  • Design, implement, and operate scalable, secure services and APIs for the quoting platform using TypeScript/Node.js and Java on AWS (Fargate & Lambda).
  • Build and maintain data models and access patterns in DynamoDB and DocumentDB to support high-performance quoting flows.
  • Implement and evolve GraphQL endpoints and integrations (experience helpful).
  • Participate in system architecture discussions, drive technical designs, and produce high-quality, documented code.
  • Collaborate closely with PO's and engineers within QP, Distribution and Products to deliver end to end solutions for Distribution quoting applications
  • Mentor and coach engineers, contribute to code reviews, and raise engineering standards across the team.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, conduct incident response, and continuously improve reliability and observability.
  • Advocate for automation, CI/CD, testing, and secure development practices.
Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years of software engineering experience
  • A background in business operations and strategies, with a focus on business IT
  • A history of translating client requirements into technical designs
  • Agile engineering capabilities and a design-thinking mindset
  • Collaboration, adaptability, flexibility and the ability to manage time and prioritize work with a globally distributed development team
  • Strong oral and written communication skills - and a knack for explaining your decision-making process to non-engineers
  • A thorough grasp of IT concepts, business operations, design and development tools, system architecture and technical standards, shared software concepts and layered solutions and designs
  • An understanding of how modifications affect different parts of a system and an ability to explain your decision-making process to non-engineers
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience
What will set you apart from others?

  • Experience building applications in AWS native technologies
  • Familiarity with Node.js, Java, Typescript, GraphQL, fargate containers and lambdas is beneficial
  • Knowledge of the quoting process for personal lines insurance
