Definition and Class Characteristics Join our Road Maintenance Team for the 2024 Winter Season! We are looking for individuals to assist with road maintenance utilizing a variety of medium and heavy road maintenance equipment. This critical role will assist with minor road repairs, brush clearing, traffic control, and other duties as assigned.
This is an entry-level classification and individuals are assigned to a variety of work, including heavy physical tasks and the operation of a variety of road maintenance equipment on training or relief assignments.
PROOF OF VALID CLASS C OPERATOR'S LICENSE ISSUED BY A STATE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLE IS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION. PLEASE ATTACH PROOF OF YOUR VALID LICENSE TO YOUR APPLICATION. Ideal candidates will have: Knowledge of:
- Safe work practices
- Geography and road names of a Nevada County road maintenance district
- Methods, procedures, tools and materials used in the repair and maintenance of roads
Skills in:
- Learning to maintain and make minor repairs on roads
- Performing physical labor requiring strength, manual dexterity, and agility
- Understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those contacted during work

Sick Leave: Temporary County employees shall accrue at the rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for each thirty (30) hours worked. Temporary County employees can accrue a maximum of 80 hours of sick leave which may be carried over from one fiscal year to the next.
Medical Benefits: Temporary employees whose assignments average 30 hours per week or more are eligible to enroll in County-sponsored medical benefits.

The Road Maintenance Worker will work various assignments to maintain and repair roads throughout the county.Some duties may include clearing of brush, limbs and trees, use of small construction tools and physical labor.Please select from the below options what best describes your experience.
