Property Accountant - Real Estate Investment Firm

The team is seeking a Property Accountant to play a critical role in managing the financial operations of their apartment portfolio. This hybrid position is based near Wheeling , IL , requiring in-office collaboration on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Property Financial Management: Prepare and maintain financial statements for assigned properties, including balance sheets, income statements, and performance analyses.
  • Account Reconciliations: Perform monthly bank reconciliations for property accounts and ensure all entries are accurately recorded in the general ledger.
  • Cash Management: Monitor and track property-level cash flow, ensuring timely execution of payments, cash distributions, and capital calls.
  • Journal Entries: Prepare and post journal entries related to accruals, prepaids, and other property-specific transactions.
  • Budget Support: Assist with the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses for assigned properties.
  • Audit Assistance: Provide supporting documentation for internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with financial standards and regulations.
  • Collaborative Communication: Work closely with on-site property managers, corporate personnel, and investors to address day-to-day accounting needs and inquiries.
  • System Utilization: Support the setup and maintenance of property accounting systems, including Yardi, to streamline financial reporting processes.
  • Acquisition & Disposition: Contribute to the financial transition process during property acquisitions and sales by reviewing financial documentation and assisting with system updates.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of property accounting or real estate accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of property-level financial operations and reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Yardi is highly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
