Russell Tobin's client is hiring a Product Designer in Manhattan, NY

Employment Type: Contract

Location: Onsite - Manhattan, NY 10038

Pay rate: $38-$40/hr

Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Product Design Specification Specialist to join our creative and technical team. This individual contributor role is responsible for transforming conceptual product or paper designs into detailed, accurate, and vendor-ready design specifications. You will collaborate closely with Designers to ensure their creative vision is translated into manufacturable, cost-effective products.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop precise design specifications based on conceptual product or paper designs.
  • Prepare detailed documentation including dimensions (height, length, weight), color, texture, and material requirements.
  • Provide specifications to vendors/manufacturers for sample production and prototypes.
  • Create, route, and release artwork according to internal processes and timelines.
  • Collaborate closely with the Designer to capture and accurately represent the vision of each product.
  • Ensure all specifications are feasible, cost-effective, and aligned with manufacturing capabilities
  • Maintain high-quality standards throughout the design-to-production lifecycle.
  • Report directly to the Manager of Art; this role has no direct reports.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Design, Industrial Design, or a related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of mechanical or technical design experience.
  • Strong understanding of materials, textures, colors, and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to convert creative concepts into practical, production-ready specifications.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
