Job Description

Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Stafford, VA, is seeking a full-time (school year) Preschool Director to oversee and coordinate the preschool at Ebenezer Church to meet the church’s strategic vision of transforming lives through Jesus Christ. They would be responsible to manage the preschool environment that strives to develop all areas of a child’s growth including spiritual, social/emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development. The Director will: Develop and maintain an effective team environment to include consistent and regular communication/team meetings and team building and morale boosting activities. Constantly evaluate the ability of the preschool to meet the needs of the community and the strategic goals of the church and respond accordingly in conjunction with the Preschool Governing Board. Promote the preschool in the community through public awareness by providing information and tours to prospective parents. Coordinate all special events such as orientation, graduation, field trips, etc. Provide effective and timely communications to parents to include creating, compiling, and updating all necessary forms, handbooks, etc. Coordinate the enrollment of students and maintain current files on each student. Hire teachers and classroom assistants, inform Staff-Parish Relations Committee of selections and credentials, and maintain current preschool employee files. Provide direction and supervision to the preschool staff, including establishing standards and expectations, approving lesson plans, conducting yearly evaluations, and writing annual contracts. Maintain health and safety standards as set forth by the Virginia Department of Social Services for religious-exempt programs; coordinate inspections and file paperwork with D.S.S. Manage the financial aspects of the preschool. Utilize data from the church data management system to support decision making. Identify current trends in preschool management/oversight and promote new ideas to expand the scope and capabilities of Ebenezer’s preschool. Continue to develop and grow personally and professionally in regard to the Christian faith. The ideal candidate will have: At least a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Five years’ experience in a leadership/managerial position in a preschool. Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects. Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. The ability to develop and monitor budgets and financial resources. Can maintain CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
