Are you looking to join an awesome team and place to grow, learn and create community teaching LIVESTRONG classes inspiring and empowering participants with a cancer diagnosis? Possibility to teach in all locations: Sun Prairie, East and West.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Fitness Director, the LIVESTRONG Instructor actively provides premier service and safe, motivating instruction to all participants coaching a 12 week Livestrong program 1-3x a year.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Increases member retention by providing personalized participant's experiences and building positive relationships with and among members, staff, volunteers and/or guests. Creates a supportive and uplifting community environment.

• Maintains accountability of all members and guests by accurately documenting attendance.

• Ensures the safety of all members and guests. Knows/reviews all safety rules and emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

• Communicates clearly and professionally with members, guests, supervisor, and co-workers as needed.

• Respects the confidentiality of all members, participants, volunteers and staff at all times.

• Arrives 10 minutes prior to class start time prepared with a positive attitude, appropriate attire, music and needed equipment; sets-up, greets members and takes attendance.

• Attends all mandatory staff meetings and all required YMCA staff training.

• Supports and participates in the Annual Campaign; and promotes member participation.

• Acts as a positive role model while implementing YMCA healthy living policies, character development and the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

• Follows all policies and procedures as set forth in the YMCA of Dane County Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct.

• Performs all other duties as requested.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

• Experience related to teaching or coaching classes is preferred.

• Requires ability to professionally and effectively communicate with members, staff and supervisors; maintain confidentiality and exchange accurate information.

• Requires ability to effectively interact with, lead, and motivate members who have a variety of abilities and needs.

• Flexibility in scheduling is helpful.

  • CPR/AED certification upon hire.

  • Nationally Accredited Group Exercise Certification and Y livestrong certification started within 3 months of hire.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Must be able to communicate clearly and project voice.

• Ability to work independently with general supervision, as well as part of a team.

• The ability to perform all physical aspects of the position is required, including the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, repetitive actions, cardiovascular exertion, performing and maintaining aerobic exercise, and full body movement (bending, kneeling, stretching, twisting, reaching, jumping, jogging, dancing, stepping, marching, hopping, skipping, etc.

• Must possess reliable transportation for travel to program sites, meetings and training when required.
