Job Description:
This position is responsible for loading, unloading, shipping, receiving, scanning, sorting, and stocking packages. He/She may utilize heavy machinery to complete tasks.
Key responsibilities
Loading and unloading: Safely load and unload cargo from trailers, ships, or other transport using equipment like forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment.
Equipment operation: Operate motorized forklifts and other warehouse equipment to move, stack, and arrange freight.
Inspection and documentation: Inspect incoming and outgoing shipments for accuracy, quality, and damage.Document shortages or damage and log shipping information into a computer system.
Organization and maintenance: Organize and maintain the dock area, ensuring shipments are properly labeled and stored, and that the workspace is clean.
Safety compliance: Follow all safety procedures and guidelines to ensure the well-being of yourself and your team, including properly blocking and bracing freight.Required skills and qualifications Attention to detail: Critical for accurately handling cargo, checking for discrepancies, and following shipping instructions. Equipment operation: Experience or the ability to quickly learn to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment. Basic math and reading: Essential for counting inventory and reading manifests and shipping documents. Teamwork: The ability to work well with other dock workers and warehouse staff. Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible part-time hours, which may include nights, weekends, or holidays.
