Position Summary

Lead the nutrition team on Campus Health Services in providing nutrition counseling and education to the Michigan State University population using an evidence-based, non-diet, weight-inclusive approach. Identify and implement intervention strategies and recommendations that improve health and wellbeing through increased knowledge and skills related to food, nutrition, and eating behavior. Support the MSU Community to achieve eating competence and develop a positive relationship with food and body image to enhance the potential for academic/social success and a positive quality of life.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work such as a Master's in Human Nutrition; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in nutrition intervention; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and registration as a Dietician.

Desired Qualifications

Master's degree in Human Nutrition, Public Health, Health Communication, or a related field.

Familiar with a non-diet and weight-inclusive approach, especially work with the Satter Eating Competence Model.

Knowledge and experience providing individual medical nutrition therapy for gastrointestinal conditions, sports nutrition topics, abnormal lab values, and other health issues and concerns.

Ability to work effectively as a member of the multi-disciplinary eating disorder team; ability to work effectively as team member for optimal client care with the medical provider staff within the health center; ability to maintain a high degree of autonomy and independence in managing case and work load; valid vehicle operator's license where needed to perform duties of the position.

Working knowledge of nutrition care for specific medical conditions.

Advanced knowledge and experience providing nutrition therapy for clients with eating disorders and weight/body image related concerns.

Excellent communication skills with both individuals and groups.

Demonstrated commitment to working within a diverse environment and interacting with individuals of different backgrounds.
