Position Summary : At Forman School, the Fellow position offers valuable job experience in boarding school as well as teaching in general. This one-year position includes room and board for the school year, a salary of $25,000, and professional development opportunities in education and special education as well as consideration for further employment (based on department openings).

Primary responsibilities:

• The first term you will be paired with a mentor teacher for two blocks per term, the following terms you will be teaching 2-3 blocks per term independently.
• Creating lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments with department chair support.
• Attending professional development workshops (in-house) on teaching topics such as classroom management, student motivation, crafting appropriate assessments, designing unit and lesson plans effectively, etc.
• Working one-on-one with the department chair on the above topics in order to hone your skills.
• Coaching three seasons of after-school activities as a head coach or assistant coach.
• Residing in a dormitory and serving as a secondary houseparent, on duty twice a week for up to 22 students.
• Developing skills to interact with teenage students in a professional capacity.
• Attending school functions, interacting with parents of students, and other general faculty expectations.
• Member of the weekday and weekend duty team.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job skills and requirements:

• Communication Skills: You must be able to speak clearly to students, other teachers, parents, and administration officials.
• Instruction Skills: You will have to explain new ideas and unfamiliar concepts with authority and in a clear and concise way so that students can understand. You must work to keep the students' attention.
• Writing Skills: Teachers write progress reports and talk with parents by email or phone conversation. Writing skills are critical.
• Creativity: Teachers have to find ways to involve students in their lessons. Additionally, teachers may have to work with different learning styles to get the most out of each student.
• People Skills: Engaging parents and creating healthy relationships with students and faculty will help create a quality learning environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in related teaching field

Other Expectations: This position is a member of a boarding school faculty. Candidates should be interested in contributing outside of the classroom and becoming fully involved in the student life program. Faculty are expected to demonstrate respect for diversity of identities and experiences, an orientation toward equity and inclusion, and cultural competency in all aspects of School life.
