Friends’ Central School is an independent, coeducational Quaker day school founded in 1845 and serving approximately 880 students in Nursery through grade 12. Located in the Philadelphia suburbs, the School has two campuses. The Middle & Upper Schools are located just outside of West Philadelphia in Wynnewood, and the Lower School is on our Old Gulph Road campus in the heart of Wynnewood.

Lower School Substitute 

Friends’ Central Lower School (nursery-5th grade) seeks a dedicated, enthusiastic Lower School Substitute starting in March 2025. Ideal candidates will demonstrate knowledge of and experience in hands-on and integrated learning, be highly motivated, hard-working, and collaborative, demonstrate a desire to learn, show initiative, and have a sense of humor. This position is for the 2024-25 school year, with responsibilities from March through June 2025. It is an exempt position and will be under the supervision of the Lower School Principal. 

The Lower School Substitute will be assigned a classroom or position to cover on a short-term or long-term basis, depending on the specific coverage needed. This could include any grade level (nursery-5th grade), or other coverages as assigned. The Lower Substitute must be flexible and nimble to account for the most frequent daily subbing responsibilities but must also be prepared to cover a longer-term absence if necessary. 

Daily substituting entails arriving by 8 am, and completion of the day by 3:15 pm

• Manage classroom procedures and student behavior
• Carry out teachers’ lesson plans and supervisory duties
• Possess strong interpersonal skills and communication skills

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of experience working with children in a school setting, including through coaching or summer programming 
• Bachelor's degree in a related field
• Passion for working with Lower School students
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to build relationships with all community members
• Commitment to the School's Quaker values and mission
• Ability to enhance the School's commitment to diversity and inclusivity as outlined in our Diversity Statement (see below)
