Job Description

The Locksmith ll position is to provide general and specific maintenance and carpenter functions for all university facilities. Work to include, but not limited to, carpentry work, door hardware installation and maintenance, door repair and adjustment, lockset and core installations and repairs, key-cutting, access control, and other duties as assigned-performs minor carpentry functions. Assisted with renovations/remodeling projects for campus facilities. Working hours Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, with occasional overtime.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Install new locks (mechanical and electronic type) and door hardware as needed. This would include new construction, remodel projects, breakage, etc.
  • Make, verify operation, and distribute keys, for academic areas and residence halls.
  • Repair and adjust door-mounted closers, hinges, ADA operators, exit devices, panic hardware, and other finish hardware.
  • Repair locks, disassemble locks, and replace worn tumblers, springs, batteries, and other parts, as needed. Must be able to work with all carpentry hand and power tools.
  • Installs and maintains electronic access control systems (industrial and commercial security hardware). Routine programming of offline and non-networked electronic locks.
  • Rekey locks for security purposes, respond to lost key incidents, and change safe combinations. Keep accurate and up-to-date on all keys and locks, and maintain a database of all keys issued.
  • Design, install, and maintain Master-Key systems, including new construction and remodel projects.
  • Produce and replace/repair locks, keys, and combinations for office equipment, including but not limited to desks, file cabinets, hazardous materials storage, HIPPA-regulated containers, gates, key switches, and any other capitol equipment.
  • Hurricane preparedness and cleanup.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Participate in the on-call program. Required to carry the cell phone 24/7 for on-call duty to respond to after-hour lock or security-related issues. May be required to work evenings and weekends in an emergency or in support of after-hours University events.

Requirements:
  • A high school diploma or GED is required
  • Must have a valid Florida driver's license or ability to obtain one within six months of employment and maintain a good driving record as determined by Florida Tech guidelines.
  • 10-hour OSHA certification is preferred.
  • ALOA Member preferred.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience required in area of expertise
  • Access Control systems, A2 small-format cores: Combination& key-cutting, CBORD controllers and CSGold management software, Allegion (Schlage) AD-series wireless locksets and associated infrastructure.

Annual Security & Fire Safety Report

The federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) requires colleges and universities, both public and private, participating in federal student aid programs to disclose campus safety information, and imposes certain basic requirements for handling incidents of sexual violence and emergency situations.

Florida Tech's 2023 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by Florida Tech; and on public properly within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus.


The numbers provided include crime statistics that were reported to local law enforcement agencies, campus security and other Campus Security Authorities.


The report also includes institutional policy statements regarding campus safety and security measures; descriptions of prevention and awareness programs; related university procedures and important guidance; and other essential safety information.

Official Transcripts

Official transcripts of all collegiate work must be sent directly from the attended institution to the Office of Human Resources prior to the first day of employment. All international degrees must have a course-by-course official evaluation and translation sent to the Human Resources Office directly from an evaluation company affiliated with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES).
