Job Title: In-School Suspension (ISS) Monitor

General Summary:

Under general supervision monitors and distributes assignments to students. Works to develop behaviors and attitudes that will aid students who have demonstrated a pattern of misbehavior in adapting to school requirements. Assists with other school activities as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One.
  • Effectively interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment.
  • Reports to the in the in-school suspension room at the assigned time and with all assignments.
  • Maintains and records attendance in accordance with board policy; reports absences to appropriate personnel; assigns seats to all students; informs students of ISS rules and expected conduct; distributes appropriate work assignments to each student; answers questions as necessary; checks completed work and makes new assignments as necessary.
  • Maintains order and control at all times in classroom.
  • Refers any student with behavior concerns to appropriate personnel; sends student to appropriate personnel immediately when student engages in severe disruptive behaviors such as gross disrespect, direct disobedience, or fighting.
  • Sends lunch count to the cafeteria each day; supervises students as they eat lunch.
  • Escorts students to restrooms, cafeteria, etc.
  • Releases students from ISS who have completed assigned time and/or completed work; gives the student a copy of the ISS Contract with the evaluation completed and signed by the instructor; gives original contract to the appropriate personnel.
  • Supervises after-school detention several times a week (if applicable).
  • Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Selects, requests, and maintains an inventory of instructional aides, technology tools, equipment, and supplies needed for daily activities; provides for safe storage and proper use of all materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Effectively uses personal technology devices and software applications for the management of pertinent information and communication.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Education/Work Experience:

  • At least two years of study (60 semester hours) at an accredited institution of higher education; or
  • An associate's degree (or higher); or
  • A passing score (456 or higher) on the ParaPro Assessment.

Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and operations. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation, and utilization of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and to complete work without the need for direct supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to interact and communicate in an effective and professional manner with supervisors, co-workers, teachers, students, and the general public.

Working Conditions:

Duties are performed in a classroom setting with no significant exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Duties require constant attention to students. Physical demands are restricted to work requiring occasional lifting/moving of items up to twenty-five pounds. Occasional local travel is required; no overnight travel required.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the school board's policy on evaluation of support personnel.
