Job Description

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for leading the routine functions of the Human Resources (HR) department including recruitment, employee relations, talent management, benefits, compliance, and HRIS management.

Key Contributions of the Role

  • Recruit, interview, onboard, and train new team members within the department.
  • Manage the daily workflow of the department.
  • Partner with the VP of Human Resources to develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives that align with the company’s overall business strategy.
  • Offer support and guidance to HR support staff and other personnel when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions or issues arise. This may include administering and executing routine tasks in delicate situations, such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of misconduct, and managing terminations.
  • Manage the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants; collaborate with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Analyze trends in compensation and benefits and make recommendations.
  • Oversee and manage the performance appraisal process in partnership with the Director of Learning and Development.
  • Provide support to the Director of Learning and Development with LMS management and creating and facilitating learning content.
  • Oversee associate corrective action meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommend best practices.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends and new technologies.
  • Plan and oversee the day-to-day operations of group benefits administration including medical, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, life insurance, worker’s compensation, and retirement plans.
  • Assist as needed with ESOP administration.
  • Oversee and administer leave requests and accommodations requiring specialized attention, particularly those arising under the FMLA, ADAAA, state and local leave laws, and short-term and long-term disability plans.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Human Resources in a managerial or generalist capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state employment guidelines.
  • Familiarity with benefits regulations including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, IRS, and DOL requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining confidence in sensitive matters.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them appropriately.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in HRIS, ATS, and LMS systems.
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Human Resources or related field; experience and/or training/certification may be substituted for formal education.
