Job Description

NorthKey Community Care is hiring for a  Health Information Management Technician. This position is   responsible for compiling, processing, and maintaining medical records within  NorthKey Community Care’s  Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and paper records system in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements. This position is responsible for performing functions that support health information management and document imaging in a hybrid health record environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma required. Associate’s degree in health information management (or related field of study) is preferred. Working towards RHIT certification is preferred.
  • One year experience with medical records/health information is preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health records is required.
  • Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Proficiency with medical office systems and electronic health records (EHRs).
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and coding systems.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

JOB DUTIES

  • Respond to requests for copies of health records; ensure appropriate paperwork (HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 compliant release of information, consents, subpoena, etc.) is on file, and log details of request for health information. Practice minimum necessary doctrine; ensure that copies include only information that is requested and available to be released. Obtain authorization from appropriate parties.
  • Process, store and retrieve electronic health information. Maintain and utilize a variety of health record indexes, storage and retrieval systems, both paper and electronic.
  • Adhere to HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 policies and procedures and maintain strict confidentiality in matters pertaining to client information.
  • Ensure that client records are complete and accurate and consistently work to reduce the number of data collection errors in the electronic health record.
  • Scan client documentation into the electronic health record as needed.
  • Prepare electronic data to submit for state reporting.
  • Process disability requests.
  • Pull paper charts as needed for record requests.
  • Process chart audits.
  • Mail certifications and/or deliver to courthouse or attorney’s offices as needed.
  • Train staff on health information management procedures.
  • Answer phone calls in response to request inquiries, status of release, etc.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2 regulations and NorthKey’s Privacy Policies.
