Job Summary Responsible for maintaining high-quality ICD-10-CM/PCS coding for all inpatient diagnoses and procedures. Review clinical documentation and diagnostic results to ensure a coding accuracy rate of 95% or better. Accurately abstract data into CHRISTUS Health electronic medical record systems, verifying patient dispositions and physician data, following ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS guidelines. Inpatient coding applies to all regional inpatient encounters. Job Description Collaborate with CHRISTUS Health HIM and Clinical Documentation Specialists to ensure accurate physician documentation, support billing accuracy, and reduce denials. Assist in other departmental tasks as directed by leadership. Report to the Regional Coding Manager, with oversight from the Director of Coding Operations and System HIM Director. Key Responsibilities Assign codes for diagnoses, treatments, and procedures based on ICD-10-CM/PCS guidelines to generate appropriate DRGs. Extract and abstract information from documentation into the electronic medical record system. Validate admit orders and discharge dispositions. Manage coding queue accounts, re-assign as needed, and finalize corrections promptly. Maintain an accuracy rate of 95% or higher. Meet productivity standards per chart type. Adhere to AHIMA's Standards of Ethical Coding. Assist in reducing backend errors and report hospital-acquired conditions. Query providers for unclear or missing documentation. Participate in audit discussions and maintain strong communication skills. Proficient with electronic medical record systems and virtual applications such as Epic, Meditech, 3M/360, Microsoft Office, Teams, Outlook, OneNote. Work independently in a remote setting with minimal supervision. Perform other duties as assigned. Job Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent; completion of accredited Baccalaureate Health Informatics, Health Information Management, or AHIMA-certified coding program preferred. 3-5 years inpatient coding experience in an acute care setting preferred. Certifications: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCA from AHIMA are required.
