**Job Title:** Garden Center Associate 

**Department:** Plant Care & Sales 

**Reports To:** Assistant Manager/Garden Center Manager 

**Status:** Full-Time / Part-Time (Seasonal options available)

**Pay:** $13-$15/hr BOE

Job Summary

The Garden Center Associate specializes in plant knowledge, detailed plant maintenance, and customer education. This role focuses on caring for specialty plant varieties, assisting with planting demonstrations, and providing expert horticultural advice to customers. The position is vital to maintaining plant health and quality while enhancing customer confidence in their plant purchases.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and apply specialized knowledge of plant varieties, care requirements, and gardening techniques

- Provide expert plant selection assistance and care advice to customers

- Assist with planting our specialty varieties and create inspirational display gardens

- Perform detailed plant maintenance including pruning, fertilizing, pest management, and disease control

- Create and maintain attractive, informative plant displays with proper signage

- Demonstrate proper planting techniques and garden design principles to customers

- Identify plant health issues and implement appropriate treatments

- Accurately ring up sales using the point-of-sale system

- Participate in continuing education to expand plant knowledge

- Help develop and conduct workshops on gardening topics

- Maintain detailed plant inventory records and care schedules

- Support seasonal transitions and special plant promotions

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent

- Plant knowledge or gardening experience preferred (training will be provided)

- Retail or customer service experience beneficial

- Enthusiasm for learning about plants and gardening practices

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills

- Willingness to expand horticultural knowledge through training

- Detail-oriented with good observation skills for plant health monitoring

- Creativity for display creation and garden design

- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours during peak seasons

- Reliable and punctual work habits

Physical Requirements

- Standing and walking for extended periods

- Lifting up to 25 pounds regularly

- Frequent bending, reaching, and stooping

- Working in various weather conditions and temperatures

- Regular use of garden tools and planting equipment
