Position Overview The Fleet & Equipment Maintenance Manager is responsible for the maintenance, operation, and compliance of all company equipment including industrial equipment, rolling stock, and other material handling equipment at all of the company's locations. Responsibilities and Duties - Responsible for managing the maintenance, repair, and compliance of all company equipment, such as: Class 8 trucks, tanker trailers, chassis, dry pneumatic trailers, steam boilers, container handlers, forklifts, pumps, compressors, blowers, meters, and pickup trucks. (Including any outsourced work.)
- Create, promote, and maintain a culture of safety, regulatory and corporate compliance and training; ensure the regular review of safety policies and SOPs with personnel. Create maintenance SOPs and assist with developing operating SOPs for new and existing equipment.
- Manage, develop, monitor, and maintain various maintenance programs including but not limited to: tires, hoses, parts, fuel purchasing/dispensing/reconciliation/reporting, and good housekeeping.
- Manage maintenance software that will as a minimum schedule preventative maintenance, facilitate customized specifications for multiple types of equipment, track maintenance costs per equipment, and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Develop and meet budgets; adhere to budgetary parameters to control the associated material and labor costs.
- Manage a comprehensive purchasing program for the maintenance shop to ensure that required parts and supplies are available to meet fabrication and equipment needs.
- Manage and execute equipment fabrication based on design provided by engineering.
- Make recommendations and review specifications for equipment purchases, and verify conformance to operational/corporate needs.
- Provide estimates and direct a team of mechanics to repair non-company-owned equipment such as customer Isotank containers, trailers, independent contractor equipment, etc. as requested.
- Ensure independent contractor equipment for fleet operations is compliant and meets company specifications.
- Maintain a parts room using proper inventory management practices and processes.
- Develop a continuous improvement program to coordinate the training and development of Mechanics, Welder/Fabricators, Administrative Personnel, and Supervisors.
- Investigate and report on all departmental incidents/non-conformances, overdue inspections, missed deadlines, negative CSA scores, accidents, property damage, equipment violations or breakdowns, and re-work.

- Minimum 5-7 years' experience participating in a diverse maintenance operation. Preferred experience:
- Liquid/Dry Bulk Transportation Services
- Bulk material transloading
- Industrial equipment
- Fabrication
- Undergraduate degree in Transportation, Business, Engineering, or similar degree is preferred
- Must be familiar with DOT/FMSCA regulations and have experience overseeing California BIT inspections. 49 CFR Parts 393 & 396.
- Cargo Tank Registered Inspector (RI) per 49 CFR 180.409 preferred, and will be required once established.
- Must be well organized, detail-oriented with general mechanical skills and knowledge of equipment in order to oversee maintenance operations, diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues.
- Able to create measurable quality and productivity goals (KPIs)
- Familiarity with clean truck technology and corresponding regulations a plus.
- Hazwoper certification a plus; certification will be required once established.
- Must have experience overseeing procurement, fabrication and inventory management.
- Required leadership and management skills include the ability to motivate and influence others, focus on safety, teamwork, and an emphasis on continuous improvement. Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Responsible for creating and maintaining a professional and productive work environment where priorities are set and achieved, standards are created and met or exceeded, deadlines are known and adhered to, where the quality of work is a given, and good communication with the other departments is key to success.
- Proficiency with PC software e.g. MS Word, Excel, Project is necessary for this position. Must be self-motivated with good critical thinking, deductive reasoning, and decision-making skills.
- Must be available to work long hours from time to time or to work outside normal scheduled work hours, for example to respond to on or off-site emergency events. Must be on call 24/7 and respond to operational needs
Physical Requirements - Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
- Able to walk, bend, reach, push, pull, stoop, squat, and climb, as necessary to diagnose equipment issues and oversee the Maintenance Team's work
Environmental Factors - Must be able to work in an industrial environment around hazardous materials, and able to work in the rain and extreme weather conditions
