Job Description
The Fire Watch is responsible for ensuring a safe work environment by monitoring areas where hot work, such as welding or cutting, is performed. This position involves identifying fire hazards, maintaining vigilance for potential fire outbreaks, and responding to fire incidents to protect personnel and property.
Key ResponsibilitiesMonitor Hot Work Activities:
Observe areas where hot work is conducted to detect potential fire hazards.
Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations.
Hazard Identification and Mitigation:
Inspect work areas for combustible materials and ensure proper clearance and fireproofing.
Verify that fire extinguishers and other firefighting equipment are in working condition and readily accessible.
Incident Response:
Take immediate action to extinguish fires using appropriate tools and methods.
Alert emergency services and evacuate personnel if necessary.
Communication and Reporting:
Report safety concerns, violations, and incidents to the supervisor promptly.
Maintain detailed logs of hot work activities, inspections, and incidents.
Safety Compliance:
Follow all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Attend regular safety training and drills.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in fire watch or safety roles preferred.
Skills:
Strong attention to detail and situational awareness.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond quickly to emergencies.
Certifications:
Fire Watch training certification.
Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety standards.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
Capable of lifting up to 20-30 pounds.
Comfortable working in varying environmental conditions, including heat and confined spaces.
This role involves working in industrial or construction settings where exposure to heat, noise, and hazardous materials is common. The Fire Watch must always be vigilant to maintain a safe environment.
