Job Description

Director of Sports and Fitness Hebrew Educational Society 9502 Seaview Ave Brooklyn, NY 11236

The Director of Sports and Fitness will be responsible for all supervision, management, and training of department staff and oversight of all department programs and operations. They will report to the CPO on all daily, monthly, and quarterly operations of the department, which includes our fitness and athletics programs. This includes coordinating administrative functions and special projects within the department and with other departments within the agency. To be successful in this role, you need to employ judicious decisionmaking abilities regarding a diverse range of activities. Preferred applicants are effective multitaskers, can motivate others, and are observant. Looking for someone who understands youth sports with a concentration and expertise in basketball.

Minimum Qualifications


Requirements:


  • Develops and implements existing and new initiatives as they relate to youth sports, and reimagines what the department could look like. Emphasis on league play, competitive travel teams, and competitions, i.e., basketball, soccer, martial arts, swimming, dance, pickleball, table tennis, volleyball, and more...

  • Plans, develops, establishes, and manages assigned programs and projects in compliance with funding source(s), regulations, and reporting requirements

  • Interview, hire, train, manage, and evaluate staff

  • Coordinate with staff to ensure all licenses/certifications are up-to-date

  • Work with staff on all things related to the success of the department, including but not limited to staffing, training, programming, and operations of the department

  • Work closely with the CPO on the vision and longterm sustainability of the department

  • Prepare and manage the program budget and track all program financial transactions

  • Collaborate with the facilities maintenance team to ensure the facility remains clean, safe, and fully operational

  • Coordinate special events, community outreach, and other activities as required

  • Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals

  • Handle inquiries and concerns about departmental programs, including program registration, rentals, membership, and special events

  • Coordinate department meetings on a weekly/monthly basis

  • Managing and maintaining all equipment and its condition, and safety

  • Participate in all training sessions, designated meetings, and special events

  • Create a welcoming environment with clients, members, and potential members to promote customer service, sales, and retention

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Background in athletics, youth sports, basketball, and coaching

  • Dependable and able to meet schedule requirements with no restrictions

  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends

  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to manage conflict when necessary

  • Excellent time management skills, including the ability to multitask and prioritize

  • Detailoriented and selfmotivated

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient in Google Suites, fitnessrelated software programs, and POS systems

  • Working knowledge of all fitnessrelated equipment and evolving industry standards

  • Be a team player

  • Enjoy working with youth and seniors

  • CPR/AED/First Aid certifications are required

  • Working knowledge of commercial pools, lifeguarding, and swim programs is a plus
