JOB TITLE: Director of Soccer Operations & Assistant General Manager
POSITION TYPE: FULL TIME
LOCATION: PORTLAND, MAINE
Operations:
- Management of Club day-to-day football operations and development; communicates effectively across various departments to efficiently support the players & coaching staff.
- Serves as a liaison between team staff and front office on all player & team-related matters; looks for ways to enhance internal processes for collaboration and communication between the coaches, players, and front office.
- Establish clear goals and delivery of appropriate feedback to maximize team performance.
- Regular and ongoing communication with Club stakeholders regarding development, strategy, and best practices; continuously looks for opportunities to approach and address challenges.
- Direct responsibility and oversight for Club budget and expenditures.
Player Recruitment + Roster Build:
- Support oversight of player recruitment and acquisitions, communicates with agents and outside contacts regarding contract negotiations.
- Regularly collaborates with coaching staff on recommendations for recruitment. Travel as needed for player scouting, identification, and recruitment.
- Develops long-term strategies for succession planning and team development.
Performance:
- Support the development and implementation of a player evaluation process that includes written assessments, feedback to players and staff, and recommendations for team & individual development.
- Consistently looks for ways to improve strategies, processes, and procedures to increase player care and maximize resources. Ensures safety standards and best practices are always followed.
- Fosters a positive team environment aligned with the Club’s vision, mission, and core values.
- Manage club relationship with health care provider and team medical staff
Player Recruitment + Roster Build:

Compliance:
- Manages outgoing and incoming player loans in compliance with the USL.
- Serves as the primary point of contact with USL regarding league regulations regarding player safety, reporting, protocols, and compliance.
- Foster a collaborative working relationship with the USL players association and club representatives.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience working with athletes, coaches, and technical staff.
- Advanced knowledge and experience managing multiple functions within a professional sports organization. Experience working with collegiate or professional athletes preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of the professional soccer environment and technical components, including US and international soccer markets.
- Experience managing player recruitment and scouting.
- Knowledge of economic, financial, and industry data necessary to utilize Club resources.
- Experience handling and analyzing performance data; preferably as it pertains to male & female athletes.
- Must be able to make tough decisions; takes responsibility for communicating feedback clearly and effectively.
- Ability to work outside normal business hours, including evening and weekends.
- Presents and maintains a positive & professional image.
- Self-motivated with solid organizational and planning skills.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to maintain discretion regarding confidential information.
- Proficient in working with Microsoft office suite.
- Successful completion of pre-employment comprehensive background check.
- Must be legally authorized or able to obtain authorization to work in the US.
