Position Summary: To provide access and optimal care to the historical information collection; as well as access to historical information sources on Riley County history and related topics.
Essential Functions: - Oversee the management, operations, and processes of the historical library and archives division.
- Manage the flow of reference services to staff and the public; provide these services as needed.
- Supervise staff, interns, and volunteers serving in research assistant capacity.
- Ensure that the historical library and archives meet the modern and technological standards of historical collections.
- Implement and manage effective and current finding aids.
- Oversee and facilitate the digitization of the collection.
- Manage the collection's records through digital CRM.
Secondary Functions: - Assist with clerical duties of the Museum.
- Prepare and deliver educational programs and tours as needed.
- Assist with disaster preparedness/security/emergency plan for the Museum.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Position Requirements: Education: Bachelor's degree in history, museum studies, or related field with advanced degree from an ALA/SAA accredited library science program or equivalent, with a concentration in archives management, archival theory and practice or, a post graduate degree in museum studies or related discipline with relevant experience
Experience: 3 years professional experience in a historical archival repository, demonstrated knowledge in archival and collections management principals, cataloging, organization, creating finding aids, and digitization of historical materials; development of an emergency response plan for historical collections; project management.
Skills: Advanced computer literacy required, demonstrated use of Microsoft Office, PastPerfect, MARC 21, Library of Congress Subject Headings, and other subject standards, Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS), and encoded Archival Descriptions; proficiency of the digitization process, demonstrated proficiency with historical collection classification and nomenclature, basic archival and manuscript conservation skills, exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent writing, editing, and proofing skills, along with the ability to communicate through public speaking; high degree of professionalism in dealing with the public and excellence in customer service.

Employee is exposed to normal noise levels of an office setting. Some objects, items, materials are inherently dusty, musty, etc. Environmental controls to protect/preserve materials are utilized.
