POSITION SUMMARY:

Trean Corporation is seeking an experienced Paralegal to join our corporate legal team. This role will support the company’s insurance and risk-related legal operations, including litigation support, service of process, and responding to subpoenas. The ideal candidate will be capable of working independently with minimal supervision, while also contributing meaningfully to a collaborative team environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide clerical and research support including document preparation, review, investigations, and fact-checking.
  • Support the Legal Department’s oversight of insurance claims programs by collaborating with internal stakeholders, program partners, and external vendors.
  • Monitor and report on claim-related legal matters, including status updates from external counsel and third-party administrators.
  • Receive, review, and coordinate responses to service of process (e.g., subpoenas, summons, complaints), ensuring timely and appropriate handling.
  • Maintain a log of legal notices and service of process documents, tracking deadlines and required actions.
  • Support litigation management by organizing case files, maintaining litigation calendars, and assisting with discovery coordination.
  • Assist with contract lifecycle management, including tracking execution, renewals, amendments, and compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Conduct research on insurance laws, regulations, and standards, and provide summary reports to leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to improve or streamline existing legal and operational protocols.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as needed.
Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required, in addition to 2-5+ years of working experience as a paralegal.
  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program (strongly preferred).
  • Experience handling workers’ compensation, claims management, or regulatory compliance is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with service of process, litigation support, and responding to subponeas.
  • Ability to perform legal research, writing and analysis.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision, while demonstrating superior organizational and technical skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and to effectively prioritize work; displays flexibility and creativity in managing intense and time-sensitive deadlines.
  • High technological proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, as well as other technology tools used within the insurance industry.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is a hybrid position in a professional office environment, with a minimum of three days in office. This role routinely uses standard office equipment and requires the physical demands of a normal office position with some light lifting. This is a full-time position with benefits.
