The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Assistant Director for Disability Services at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC), the Student Services Coordinator will serve as the initial point of contact for students requesting disability accommodations.  The Student Services Coordinator will guide students through the process of registration and facilitate communication with faculty and staff. Other responsibilities include managing proctoring services, sign-language interpreting services, CART, captioning, and housing accommodations for eligible students with disabilities.

This is an essential onsite role that requires occasional weekend and late evenings hours during times of peak operational volume.  Some hybrid work options may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a high volume of multi-step approved accommodations for students with disabilities including CART, captioning, and housing accommodations.  Each accommodation requires an interface with faculty, students, and administrators.
  • Meet with students, prospective students and parents, high school guidance counselors, faculty, staff, and other professionals/agencies regarding registration process, disability documentation guidelines, and provision of accommodations and services.
  • Serve as the main point of contact (in person, by phone, or via email) for individuals contacting Disability Services for accommodation services.
  • Organize and coordinate the day-to-day activities related to accommodations to ensure approved accommodations are provided. Evaluate the effectiveness of the accommodations and the processes governing the provision of accommodations. Work with the Disability Services leadership team to update and maintain policies and procedures regarding accommodations.
  • Serve as Disability Housing Coordinator and facilitate monthly committee review of disability housing accommodation requests and follow up work with multiple University Housing offices to ensure provision of approved housing accommodations; guide students through the process and provide appropriate referrals.
  • Facilitate proctoring services for graduate and professional schools to support their administration of exams with accommodations, including recruitment, training, and supervision of proctors.
  • Manage an active caseload of approximately 15-25 students with disabilities.  Under the supervision of the Assistant Director manage on-going disability related needs for assigned students.
  • Conduct intake, advise students about gathering required documentation. Determine eligibility for specific accommodations.
  • Maintain accurate student records such as case notes, intake information, and all relevant documentation related to accommodations. 
  • Collaborate with faculty to provide effective accommodations for students with disabilities.
  • Utilize all aspects of Disability Services electronic database systems to ensure effective coordination and oversight of all accommodations and related processes.
  • Maintain up-to-date case notes regarding interactions and coordination of accommodations for students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required.
  • Require a minimum of 2 years of related experience.   
  • Knowledge of the learning context of highly selective institutions. 
  • Strong organizational, written, verbal and electronic skills required. 
  • Sensitivity to issues of diversity. 
  • Demonstrated ability to be part of a collaborative team focused on providing high quality services to students with disabilities.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and critical thinking skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Rehabilitation/Special Education, or related field preferred.  
  • Knowledge in the areas of postsecondary academic accommodations and auxiliary services and providing disability services to college students.
