JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for maintaining the integrity, safety, and efficiency of the sterile field throughout the operation. Applies age-specific needs in the planning and implementation of the surgical procedure. Possesses expertise in scrubbing for cardiovascular, peripheral vascular and thoracic procedures. Must take call on a rotating basis.
Job Specific:
Participates in the safety management and infection control programs (EF).
Assembles items needed for specific surgical procedures with knowledge of each surgeon’s preferences (EF).
Creates and maintains sterile fields for surgical procedures (EF).
Cleans, assists with the sterilization of, and stores instruments, equipment and supplies (EF).
Identifies medications correctly (EF).
Assists other surgical team members with the cleaning of the operating room in readiness for the following procedure (EF).
Assists the circulating nurse and/or anesthesia personnel as requested (EF).
Assists with the orientation of new personnel (EF).
Takes call as assigned (EF).
Demonstrates proficiency in the technical skills associated with cardiovascular, peripheral vascular, and thoracic procedures (EF).
Hospital:
Adheres to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures.
Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital’s Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations.
Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s Ethics, Compliance and Confidentiality Program guidelines.
Performs within his/her professional Scope of Practice at all times.

Minimum Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program or accredited school of vocational nursing
Current certification as a Surgical Technologist or current license to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in State of Texas
BLS
Must use comprehensive judgment in making decisions related channeling of communications
Exhibits and exercises an awareness of own legal responsibilities in delivering patient care
PREFERRED
2 years of experience as a Certified Surgical Technician or Licensed Vocational Nurse
