Responsibility Summary

The Bilingual Education Specialist position conducts ChicagoCAC education activities, community outreach, professional trainings and supports the activities of the Education, Outreach & Prevention (EOP) department. Duties include providing education sessions to adults and young people, preparing, planning, tracking data, and reporting on program activities. The Education Specialist will not conduct primary prevention activities. In addition, the Bilingual Education Specialist is responsible for creating an inclusive environment that demonstrates equity and belonging to our clients, ChicagoCAC staff, and partners.

This position will have a hybrid work schedule with some days in-person in the office in Chicago or in-person in the field in Chicago, and some days working remotely at home. Hours will be flexible including some weekend and evening hours as needed. A tentative work schedule will be agreed upon with the supervisor and based on the needs of the business.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Conduct outreach to Spanish-speaking and immigrant communities to increase awareness of child abuse, how to report suspected abuse, and the services available through ChicagoCAC
• Work with community partners to establish a Latinx advisory council
• Lead the Latinx advisory council which will advise and strategize on best practice interventions for children who have experienced sexual abuse and their families
• Meet regularly with Latinx advisory council and discuss strategies for engaging the community, encouraging awareness of sexual abuse, promote reporting of abuse, and provide resources to residents
• Train members of the Latinx advisory council to conduct basic trainings and outreach and serve as ambassadors
• Actively engage community members and professionals in community outreach
• Organize, facilitate and conduct education programming for professionals, community members and parents/caregivers about child sexual abuse, ChicagoCAC’s services, trauma-informed sexual abuse response and mandated reporting
• Assist in development of education curriculum and disseminate materials as needed, including development of PowerPoint slides, webinar content and other written material
• Participate in internal workgroups related to education, prevention and outreach at ChicagoCAC as needed
• Promote trauma resiliency during education sessions and throughout work tasks to foster a trauma informed environment
• Assist with tracking of program activities and in preparing periodic reports
• Represent ChicagoCAC at prevention education meetings, training collaborations, coalitions and events
• Schedule prevention education sessions made by online requests and assist with maintaining schedule of education sessions
• Assist with maintaining and organizing files and folders, both physical and electronic in Microsoft Teams and Share Point 
• Assist with activities related to ChicagoCAC’s community coalitions as directed
• Assist in the planning and coordination of annual Child Abuse Prevention Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month activities
• Coordinate, facilitate and/or conduct trainings for ChicagoCAC staff and multidisciplinary team members
• Assist with planning and coordination of ChicagoCAC’s symposia series 
• Conduct tours of ChicagoCAC as requested
• Assist EOP department administratively as requested
• Additional duties as required by Director of Education & Prevention

Discretion

The Bilingual Education Specialist has a low-level range of discretion and independent decision-making.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Bilingual Education Specialist will not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Relationships

The Bilingual Education Specialist works closely with the Director of Education & Prevention, program staff, Development department, ChicagoCAC’s partner agencies, as well community agencies and organizations for which trainings are provided.

Qualifications

Bilingual Spanish and English speaking and writing required. Minimum requirement of bachelor’s degree in human service field, master’s degree preferred. Experience in prevention education, professional outreach and/or training is required, and experience in the sexual violence and/or child welfare is required. Strong organizational and task-oriented skills required. Familiarity with children’s advocacy center model, Chicago’s healthcare, school and/or social service settings desirable. Ability to work effectively within Chicago’s diverse communities. Must be highly professional with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work evenings and weekends when needed. Must have a reliable means of transportation to access community.

• PTO goes up to 40 days after 5 years. 
• Additional PTO for FMLA-related reasons up to 20 days. 
• A remote work policy that provides flexibility in work hours so long as operational needs are met. 
• Regular expert training on evidence-based therapy modalities, which includes being able to earn Continuing Education Units.
