Job Description

ATHLETIC COORDINATOR

QUALIFICATIONS: Certified Employee of the Bourbon County Board of Education, with previous experience as a coach and knowledge of the overall operation of an athletic activities program.

REPORTS TO: Middle School Principal

SUPERVISES: Not Applicable

JOB GOAL: To provide for overall leadership and coordination among the various sports to facilitate programs that provide youngsters worthwhile learning experiences.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible to the Superintendent of Schools and works under the direction of middle school principal and the overall athletic program.
  2. Responsible for administering all interscholastic and internal policies and procedures working within the confines of the Rules and By Laws of the Kentucky Athletic Association and Board of Education.
  3. Observe coaches sufficiently in order to make future recommendations in terms of job expectancies and to make recommendations to the school principals as to coach's job assignment.
  4. Responsible for evaluating all new candidates for original appointments and shall be a member of the selection committee which includes, in addition to him, the Principal and the Superintendent of Schools or his designee. The committee shall recommend two or three finalists to the Superintendent who shall recommend the candidate to the Board of Education.
  5. Responsible for all recommendations for the improvement of adequate facilities which shall be directed to the Superintendent of School for consideration and referral at this discretion.
  6. Responsible for the development of all interscholastic game schedules supported by a copy of a contract form in his files and approve the publication of all schedules.
  7. Responsible for contracting all game officials.
  8. Interpret Board Policy to the extent necessary to provide guidance for the school and coaches under his jurisdiction.
  9. Resolve conflicts that may develop from time to time within the ranks of the Athletic Department.
  10. Seek and find ways for supporting and financing the athletic programs.
  11. Submit a financial report to the school and to the Board of Education at the end of each school year.
  12. Make arrangements for all interscholastic events such as transportation, lodging and meals when required.
  13. Receive equipment quotations from authorized coaches, evaluates such requests and approves appropriate orders.
  14. Attend all home athletic contests and/or arranges for proper supervision of home athletic contests by administrative personnel.
  15. Act as tournament manager for all league and tournament playoff activities that are assigned to the school district.
  16. Send reminders of coming events to schools and officials.
  17. Responsible along with the Principal after consulting with the Coach, for the cancellation or postponement of contracted contest because of non-playing conditions.
  18. Supervises the Faculty managers and Middle School athletic personnel.
  19. Supervises all radio and television broadcasts as well as the public address system operation at the various games.
  20. Maintain a permanent file of players, medical examinations, insurance forms, records, parent consent forms, payments, etc.
  21. Maintain a permanent record of each sport, such as wins and losses, outstanding records, students who letter in specific sports, etc.
  22. Maintain a file of all-athletic suspensions and expulsions from teams in regard to giving each athlete "due process."
  23. Responsible for determining scholastic eligibility of all candidates for athletic teams on a weekly/grading period/ semester basis and for certifying their eligibility on the proper state forms.
  24. Coordinate with the District Office the coaches' request to attend coaching clinics at the Board of Education's expense.
  25. Work in conjunction with the Middle School/Elementary Principals in developing the yearly budget for the athletic program as requested by the head coaches.
ATHLETIC COORDINATOR
  1. Work with Principals, cheerleading advisors and coaches involved in scheduling all athletic assemblies and pep rallies.
  1. Coordinate the use of all Middle/Elementary facilities in the school district with the respective Building Principals by groups outside the school.
  2. Responsible for game management at all home interscholastic contests and when admission is charged is responsible for the safe keeping and deposit of gate receipts.
  3. Provide for cleaning, repairing and storing of all athletic equipment and maintaining a perpetual inventory of all equipment.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work day to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
