JOB SUMMARY

The School of Kinesiology, as an academic unit of Southern Nazarene University, is charged with meeting the demand for new and relevant academic programs that equip students for successful careers in Kinesiology disciplines including: physical education, coaching, sports management, exercise science, physical therapy, occupational therapy and athletic training.

RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking a dynamic and qualified candidate with professional experience, educational background and/or dual credentials in multiple disciplines within the field of kinesiology. This includes areas such as physical education, sports management, exercise science, physical therapy, or other related fields. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a well-rounded knowledge base and practical expertise across more than one kinesiology sub-field, enabling them to contribute to a variety of projects and initiatives within our organization.

Essential Functions:

• Teaching and advising students in the school of kinesiology.
• Conduct curriculum design, assessment & evaluation for academic program(s) within the school of kinesiology.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to operate office equipment
• Ability to provide quality customer service
• Additional duties as assigned
• This is a 9-month contract position, with the expectation that the employee will work only during the academic year (9 months) and receive 3 months off annually.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• An understanding of the importance for diversity, inclusion and equity.
• Masters degree required and doctorate preferred (or plan to pursue a doctorate within 2 years of employment).
• Professional experience and/or educational background in multiple disciplines within the field of kinesiology (such as physical education, sports management, exercise science, coaching, physical therapy, etc.).
• Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment with interest in active and collaborative learning as well as instructional use of technology.
• Experience in creating courses and evaluating outcomes.
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to prioritize multiple demands in a fast-paced work environment
• Typing and spelling competency
• Experience with various computer software applications
• Data entry experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Doctorate earned or plan to pursue a doctorate within 2 years of employment
• Experience in higher education

Supervision Received:

Receives supervision and work assignments from a designated supervisor, although other staff members in the unit may provide work direction.

Supervision Exercised:

May be responsible for the coordination of work assignments for student employees.
