Position: The primary focus of the After School STEM Enrichment Instructor will be to teach Snapology programs for afterschool programming 1 to 4 days per week. After School STEM Enrichment Instructors are asked to promote creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while educating students on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) concepts. We provide all of the training and supplies you will need to conduct a class. After-school programs are conducted for children in grades K-2, 3-5 and 6-8 and instructors should be available between the hours of 3 - 6 pm. Current programs are offered throughout Gig Harbor, Tacoma, Fircrest, Lakewood, and Port Orchard.
Individuals seeking more teaching hours may be offered mid-day, weekend and school break teaching hours.
Role & Responsibilities: - Lead groups of up to 20 students through curriculum-guided activities
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use the information to adjust teaching strategies
- Adequately prepare for each program by reading the curriculum, watching training videos, and participating in face-to-face training sessions
- Handle inquiries from parents and partners regarding Snapology programs
- Encourage students & parents to enroll students in future Snapology programs
- Participate in periodic Snapology training & staff meetings, as required
Qualifications: - Ability to pass background check and obtain child safety clearances
- 2 or more years of experience working with groups of children in a classroom or camp environment
- Education degree or teaching experience is recommended but not required
- Proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
- Must have reliable transportation
Programs: - Weekday after-school and/or evening classes
- Weekend workshops and/or birthday parties
- Summer camps
- Special events, holidays, and break workshops
This position is part-time. Depending on candidate availability and the time of year, After School STEM Enrichment Instructor typically work between 3-12 hours per week.
