Position Details Title: Academic Advisor Agency: Piedmont Virginia Community College Location: Albemarle – 003 FLSA: Exempt Salary Range: $52,500 – $58,500 Employment Type: Full Time (flexible schedule) Position Purpose Academic advisors support and empower students to reach their academic and career goals by promoting an environment of shared responsibility that fosters an ongoing collaboration between advisors and students. Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for case management of assigned students, proactively monitoring their progress and supporting increased student retention and completion. Act as the point of contact for students to help them progress in their academic pathways. Support the college’s efforts to bolster first‑year momentum, including helping to ensure student credit attainment. Advise students regarding academic interest, college course offerings, programs of study, and academic requirements. Assist students in selecting courses that reflect individual needs and academic requirements. Manage student alerts in EAB Navigate360 and assist with other student success and retention activities. Document all student advising interactions in EAB Navigate360, maintain accurate student records. Utilize EAB Navigate360 as a tool to connect with students and faculty intentionally and proactively. Meet with students and provide guidance/information on PVCC, including academic plans, transfer resources, and student support resources. Refer students to college support services including financial aid, academic support (tutoring), and the Student Resource Center. Serve as the Express advisor (walk‑in) and provide front desk coverage as needed. Provide transfer planning and advising, including knowledge of guaranteed admission agreements. Participate in staff meetings and training sessions. Maintain confidentiality of records and information, including FERPA compliance. Assist with advising and registration events such as STAR, on‑site high school events, and college registration events as well as division initiatives such as student orientation and Welcome Week. Minimum Qualifications Experience providing guidance, coaching, teaching, customer service, or case management in any setting that supports individuals’ goals or progress. Demonstrated ability to manage a caseload or group of clients/students, including proactive outreach and follow‑up. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and convey information clearly. Ability to learn and use digital tools such as advising platforms, CRM systems, or databases (e.g., EAB Navigate360). Strong organization and time‑management skills, including accurate documentation and tracking of interactions. Demonstrated ability to problem‑solve and make appropriate referrals to resources or support services. Commitment to student‑centered service supporting varied populations. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, faculty, and campus partners toward shared student‑success goals. Flexibility to work a 40‑hour week, including occasional support for events such as orientation or registration activities. Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning institutional policies, academic pathways, and student success practices. Additional Considerations Experience in academic advising within higher education. Additional education in a related field.
