As a Social Services Intern you will be under the Supervision of a subject matter expert or Department Supervisor to assist in performing work aligned to one of the following tracks:
•Case Management
•Donor Relations
•Victim, Refugee, and Immigrant Advocate
•Community Engagement/Outreach
•Social Services Program Coordinator
•Human Services Customer Service
•Emergency Response
What You'll Do As a Social Services Intern your responsibilities will be dependent on which track you are aligned to. Please note not all positions will be client or community facing but you can anticipate supporting programs which will directly impact our clients or community. Below are some potential and duties:
•Serve clients in need
•Practice and perform case management duties
•Navigate community partners
•Fundraising for specific programs
•Supporting events such as donation drives and educational community events
•Perform other related duties as required.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: In most of the Social Services internships the Intern will have limited client interaction and/or will not be under the supervision of a licensed professional. Please make sure to note in your application if you must have professional supervision to meet your program requirements. Most of our internships do not have direct clinical or counseling opportunities.
Ideal Candidate Summary
Our ideal candidate will have/be:
- Pursing a certificate, licensure, or degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Human Services, Criminology or closely related field
- Ability to intern at least one season for an average of 12-30 hours per week with the possibility of an internship extension.
- Interest in community engagement and/or supporting individuals and families in emergent need.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate potentially challenging interpersonal communication
- Interest in local government and supporting work that is related to or direct service to the community.
- Desire to grow professionally and accept feedback and critique
- Interest in taking ownership and engagement in your day-to-day work.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and resolve issues through critical thinking
- Ability and interest in collaboration to accomplish projects and goals
- Excellent customer service, resiliency, and time management skills
Minimum qualifications: - Education: Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, associates, bachelor's, or higher degree or a recently graduate (completed specified program within less than 1 year of completion)
- Experience: None
- Education and Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted

You will be onboarded with a cohort of peers to begin to help you develop your network across the City and so you can go through similar programming throughout your time at the City.
Location Flexibility The City and County of Denver utilizes a hybrid model workplace that balances the responsibilities of public service with the benefits of a flexible work environment. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the field several days a week and telecommute remotely at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days.
